Frequent headaches could be fatal!

I was left sagging in space after losing a relative to severe headaches and convulsions. No one would wish to lose their loved ones especially when they are still young. The lose left me wondering and searching for clueless leads to a number of questions. I have talked to quite a number of persons since then that I know could have a lead to this and also reading online about this deadly non-communicable disease (NCD). I have come to sum it up all that a headache that just won’t go away could mean a severe disease or condition that need cardinal attention.

If you suffer from chronic headaches like migraines, tension headaches, sinus headaches or cluster headaches, it can easily throw your life off track into a death trap. If the headaches have been a regular feature in your life, you know your triggers and ways to avoid them.

I have come across number reasons one could be suffering from a headache. But this might not entirely put you off the line; it is better to visit a credible health worker with experience in that area. The trick is to identify them from your usual headaches and act before it is too late.

Headache is also an indicator of those health issues when accompanied by some of the other symptoms that are typical in such cases.

High blood pressure is a silent killer and shows no symptoms and a sudden severe headache could mean you are suffering from malignant hypertension. The normal blood pressure level is considered to be below 140/90, but for someone who has malignant hypertension, it could be anywhere above 180/120 with some damage to one organ or the other.

Severe stroke can occur all of a sudden and can be accompanied by a major headache. It happens when blood circulation to the brain is affected, which could be due to a number of reasons.

Low glucose levels is a condition called hypoglycaemia. Of all the organs, low glucose affects the brain first and the condition could be fatal. A headache triggered due to low glucose can be treated once you replenish your body with enough fluids and carbohydrate rich foods. It is advised that you may need to stay away from foods that are high in sugar as it could lead to a spike and then a dip in glucose levels within a short span of time. It is always stressed that hypoglycaemia is a dangerous condition and could also lead to sudden death.

Infection in the brain can trigger headache that could also be a sign that your brain has suffered a severe infection like meningitis. Meningitis is a condition where there is inflammation of the meninges, the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, caused due to a viral or bacterial infection, and it could be life threatening.

Internal bleeding may sometimes be associated with blood vessels in the brain that could have ruptured either due to high blood pressure or other physiological problems, and leak blood, causing an aneurysm. A ruptured blood vessel in the brain can cause severe weakness to some parts of the body along with headaches.

Age-related crisis are for those who are older than 50 and experience a new or a progressive headache, it is when it is incumbent for the time to act. It could be a case of giant cell arteritis or a brain tumour.

The above are some of the areas that I have read about and thought I would share with you. The best way is to visit your or referred medial worker with experience on headaches.
